Chapelle de la Madeleine

Chapelle de la Madeleine (39)

The Chapelle de la Madeleine is a little off the typical tourist trail, which makes it a charming, peaceful place of worship.

You should also be aware that this church has a very curious history. In the first place, the original construction dated from the fifteenth century, but after the bombardment of 1695, the church had to be rebuilt. That is not all, however, as you would probably be interested to know that this is not the church’s original location. In fact, it was originally sited at the spot now occupied by the Central Station. To allow, precisely, for the construction of the station and its car park, it was decided that the chapel should be moved, stone by stone, to its current site.

All this movement led to the replacement of its fifteenth-century interior with the simple, and even modern, decoration that you will currently find.
