European Parlament

European Parlament (41)

The European Parliament building has caused a great deal of controversy in Brussels right from the outset, as some people consider it a masterpiece while others think it is a genuine monstrosity. So, see what you think of it!

What is evident is that the building is, at least, striking. Built in steel and glass, it stands out for its 70-metre height and the fact it is visible from many points in the capital. In addition, the people of Brussels have even given it the nickname “Whim of the Gods”, in reference to the similarity it bears to the box of a popular brand of cheese.

It is in this modern building that the meetings of the European Commission are held, which means that although the Parliament headquarters are in the city of Strasbourg, parliamentarians and their collaborators tend to spend most of their time in Brussels. When they are not in the Belgian capital, the building is also used for the meetings of the European Union’s different committees.
