Lavra Elevator Tram

Lavra Elevator Tram (1E)

The Lavra elevator tram, inaugurated in April 1882, holds the privilege of being the first to successfully overcome the sharp inclines of Lisbon.

It is the oldest of the four Lisbon elevator trams and connects the street “Rúa de San José”, in the lower part of the city, near to the “Avenida da Liberdade” (Freedom Avenue in English), to the street known as “Rúa Pestana”, in the upper part.

Apart from going up to the “San José” hospital, at its highest point, you can also walk to the “Jardim de Torel” viewing point or the park “Campo dos Mártires da Patria”.
