Beaches (12)

Mykonos, like its Greek island sisters, boasts a multitude of sandy jewels lapped by the Aegean. More than 20 beaches and charming coves are distributed over 80 kilometres of coastline. The choice of bathing opportunities is so extensive that it becomes difficult to choose where to relax and disconnect or where to dive to admire the rich marine life that inhabits the crystalline waters of the Aegean.

Those who begin their tour on the northern coastline will discover the most tranquil, secluded and uncluttered beaches on the island. These include Panormos and Agios Sostis, two wonderful beaches that are ideal for swimming, surfing or just relaxing in hammocks. Ftelia, located in Panormos Bay is a secluded beach that attracts windsurfers. Agios Stefanos, for its part, is the ideal place for families.

On the southern coastline visitors will find a selection of beaches that offer greater protection from the wind. Beginning the tour on the western part, the first beach you will come across is Agios Ioannis, one of the most attractive on the island and one that invites you to relax on its white sands, enjoy a delightful view of the Delos and dive in its crystalline waters. Further along there is Ornos, a quiet family beach just 2 kilometres from the picturesque village of Ornos. Right next door is one of the most beautiful beaches on Mykonos: Psarou, the ideal location for water sports. Nearby lies Platis Gialos, with its golden sands and sparkling blue waters. This beach is perfect both for families and for boarding boats to the famous Paradise and Super Paradise beaches. Paradise Beach is open to the practise of nudism and has been very popular since the hippy days. Super Paradise is without a doubt the most popular beach on the island. This is definitely the beach for parties, fun, eccentricity and generally letting one's hair down. The perfect spot for the younger crowd, gays, lesbians and those seeking to mingle with the in-crowd.

For something quieter, head to the east of the island in search of the incredible Kalafatis. A beach of impeccable crystal-clear waters that is often frequented by surfers. Wonderfully golden, many describe this beach as one of the most beautiful on Mykonos.
